Chung Hua Middle School No.1 Visit and Future Academic Engagement

Chung Hua Middle School No.1, a Chinese Independent School founded in 1958, has a proud history spanning over 65 years. Renowned for its strong academic culture, large student body, and deep roots within Kuching’s Chinese community, the school continues to play a vital role in local education.

The school is required to sit for the UEC exam, while students in the top-level classes also take the SPM. In addition, the school conducts internal exams every three weeks, alongside semester examinations, to maintain high academic standards.

During our visit, we met with Ms. Vivien, Head of the Further Education & International Affairs Department. She shared that while students are kept very busy with their studies and examinations, they remain eager to explore opportunities and possibilities for further education.

We also had the pleasure of witnessing a vibrant lunchtime event, where students promoted their extracurricular clubs. The event drew participation from both new students and seniors, reflecting the school’s dynamic and engaging campus life.

As suggested by Ms. Vivien, UTMy is currently exploring opportunities to deliver academic talks for students. Potential topics include Japanese culture, global issues, and other subjects aligned with student interests. Although the school does not offer Japanese language classes, Ms. Vivien noted that many students have a strong interest in Japanese culture.

We look forward to returning later this year to engage with students through these academic talks.
