Exploring Study Pathways with SM Sains Kuching Utara (SAKURA)
SM Sains Kuching Utara (SAKURA), established in 2013, is a fully residential science school in Kuching that upholds high academic standards. The school is known for its diverse student body, dedicated and well-qualified teachers, and consistently strong performance in national examinations.
As part of its foreign language curriculum, SAKURA offers Japanese language education and organises study trips to Japan. While a number of students have expressed interest in pursuing further studies in Japan, some parents remain concerned about potential challenges related to language and cultural adaptation. In this context, the school principal, Puan Nurul Aleena Ruman binti Abdullah, highlighted that UTMy could be an attractive option, as it allows students to obtain a Japanese degree without leaving Malaysia.
During the visit, discussions also touched on the importance of student support systems. As UTMy does not provide on-campus accommodation, it will be essential to explore ways to assist prospective students in securing suitable off-campus housing.
Unfortunately, we were unable to meet the students during this visit, as they were resting in preparation for a sports event scheduled for the following day. We look forward to the opportunity to engage with the students during our next visit to Kuching.
