On 9 April 2026, Mr. Hiromitsu Narukama, President of Mitsui & Co. (Malaysia) and President of the Japanese Chamber of Trade & Industry, Malaysia (JACTIM), visited UTMy as a guest lecturer for the Society and Career course.

The lecture, titled “A Perspective of Japanese Industry in Malaysia and General Trading Companies,” provided students with valuable insights into the role of Japanese corporations in Malaysia.
Mr. Narukama shared the rich history of Mitsui & Co., highlighting its long-standing presence and contributions in both Japan and Malaysia. He also elaborated on the company’s diverse business portfolios, including infrastructure development, iron and steel, and chemical industries.

Following the lecture, students participated in a group discussion session. They were divided into three groups and given one hour to deliberate on two key questions: “What kind of business should a Japanese company or Mitsui & Co. pursue in Malaysia?” and “What are your Kokorozashi (aspirations) during your student life in Malaysia?”
The session encouraged critical thinking and allowed students to reflect on both industry trends and their personal ambitions.
Each group then presented their ideas, fostering a dynamic exchange of perspectives. The session concluded with a token of appreciation, as UTMy’s Dean, Prof. Tsujimura, presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Mr. Narukama in recognition of JACTIM’s continuous support. JACTIM has contributed significantly to the campus by funding book purchases and recently donating 185 books for students, further enriching the university’s learning resources.
