University of Tsukuba, Malaysia Signed MOU with The Japanese School (Johor)
2026.05.12
We are proud to announce that the University of Tsukuba, Malaysia has signed an MOU with The Japanese School (Johor) to promote educational collaboration and student engagement initiatives.
On Monday 11 May, we were pleased to welcome Miyashita-sensei and Tashiro-sensei from The Japanese School (Johor) for an information session introducing the upcoming collaborative project to UTMy students.
As the first initiative under this partnership, UTMy students will join the school’s Period for Integrated Studies (総合的な学習の時間), “Connect”, as volunteers and mentors.
Japan’s “Period for Integrated Studies” (総合的な学習・探究の時間) is a student-centred learning programme introduced under the national Course of Study guidelines by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). The programme encourages students to explore real-world issues through inquiry, research, discussion, and problem-solving activities, while developing critical thinking, communication skills, creativity, and independent learning abilities.
Through this programme, UTMy students will engage with junior high school students by supporting discussions, sharing perspectives, and helping them explore solutions to real-world issues through problem-based learning activities.
This collaboration provides a meaningful opportunity for students from both institutions to strengthen communication, teamwork, and critical thinking skills while learning from one another in an international and collaborative environment.
According to Miyashita-sensei, the Japan School's students will present their project outcomes at the end of this year. We look forward to seeing how the projects develop through the continued collaboration and support between UTMy and The Japanese School (Johor).
