UTMy Holds Entrance Ceremony for the Class of 2026


On 1 September 2026, the School of Transdisciplinary Science and Design, University of Tsukuba, Malaysia (UTMy) held its Entrance Ceremony for the class of 2026. Showing steady signs of growth in student numbers since its establishment in 2024, this year marks the largest incoming student cohort to date.

The ceremony was attended by distinguished guests and university representatives from both Malaysia and Japan. Dignitaries from Malaysia included YBhg. Datin Noorazah binti Omar, Undersecretary of the International Relations Division, Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia. Japanese dignitaries included Mr. KITAOKA Tatsuya, Counsellor, Embassy of Japan in Malaysia, and University of Tsukuba President NAGATA Kyosuke, Provost KATO Mitsuyasu, Vice President for Student Affairs CHIBA Chikafumi, and Vice President and Executive Director for Education TAKENAKA Yoshihiko. In addition, families of the new students, honoured guests, faculty members, and UTMy staff members also attended the ceremony.

During the ceremony, the Best Student Award, which recognises outstanding academic achievement, was presented to the top-performing student in each year, with the award sponsored by JACTIM.

Surrounded by the warm support and encouragement of those in attendance, 24 new students from Malaysia, Japan, China, and Indonesia took their first steps towards a new chapter of their lives at the main campus building the University of Tsukuba, Malaysia.

Following the morning’s entrance ceremony, UTMy’s orientation programme continued in the afternoon with special lectures delivered by President NAGATA, Vice President CHIBA, and Vice President TAKENAKA. The orientation programme will continue through 7 September, and regular classes will begin on 9 September.
  

We hope that students will develop diverse perspectives and broaden their horizons through their studies, as well as future encounters and experiences. We look forward to encouraging our new UTMy students to unlock their full potential, opening up new possibilities for their future.
