A New Academic Year Begins at UTMy
2026.09.09
A new academic year has officially begun at the University of Tsukuba Malaysia (UTMy)!
Today marks a special day on campus as our first-, second-, and third-year students are all back and starting their classes for the new academic year. For our first-year students in particular, today marks an exciting milestone: their very first class at UTMy.
For our first-year students, their university journey begins with Invitation to Arts and Sciences, a class designed to encourage students to explore topics that spark their curiosity. Students discuss and present on topics of their choice, ranging from economic policies to smart devices. As their very first class together, it is also a great opportunity for them to introduce themselves, share their interests, exchange ideas, and begin getting to know the classmates they will be learning alongside over the coming years.

Our second-year students are taking Japanese Language and Studies, where they put their bilingual skills into practice by translating Japanese articles into English. Today's materials include topics related to business etiquette, such as the culture of overworking in Japan and the practice of bowing. Through activities like these, students are not only developing their Japanese and English skills, but also gaining an understanding of professional customs and etiquette that they can apply when they enter the workforce.

Meanwhile, our third-year students are taking General Introduction to Natural Sciences, with today's class focusing on disaster prevention and countermeasures. With climate change and global warming contributing to increasingly serious natural disasters around the world, understanding how disasters occur and how communities can prepare for them is more important than ever.

From the very first class in their university journey to preparing for their future careers, our students encounter learning experiences that span different disciplines, cultures, and ways of thinking.
At UTMy, we believe that education should extend beyond the boundaries of a single field. We encourage our students to explore diverse perspectives, connect knowledge across disciplines, and think critically about the world around them. Through this approach, we hope to prepare students not only with academic knowledge, but also with the curiosity, adaptability, communication skills, and global perspective needed to navigate an ever-changing world.
A new academic year brings new beginnings, new challenges, new friendships, and countless opportunities to learn and grow.
