Students Visit UTMy as Part of Malaysia Study Tour

A student delegation from Senior High School at Sakado, University of Tsukuba, Ehime University Senior High School, and University of Tsukuba visited University of Tsukuba, Malaysia (UTMy) as part of their study tour in Malaysia.

Following an information session, Prof. Dr. Yamada and Prof. Dr. Nishimura conducted a mock Problem-Based Learning (PBL) activity focusing on haze, an environmental issue affecting Malaysia and the wider region.

During the activity, Prof. Dr. Yamada guided the students in observing outdoor air and analysing its elemental composition, while Prof. Dr. Nishimura discussed the potential effects of haze on human health. By approaching the issue from different academic perspectives, the activity provided an example of UTMy’s transdisciplinary approach to learning and how knowledge from different fields can be brought together to explore real-world issues.

The programme concluded with an informal discussion session, where the students had the opportunity to exchange ideas with Prof. Dr. Yamada, Prof. Dr. Nishimura, and Prof. Dr. Hiraishi. They also spoke with UTMy Year 2 students and asked questions about student life in Malaysia.

Following their visit to UTMy, the delegation travelled to Kota Kinabalu for the next stage of their study tour.
We hope they enjoy the rest of their programme and make the most of their time in Malaysia.
