Student Visit from Ibaraki Prefectural Mito Second High School
UTMy recently hosted a delegation from Ibaraki Prefectural Mito Second High School, located in the same prefecture as the University of Tsukuba's main campus.
Founded in 1900 as the first girls' high school in Ibaraki Prefecture, the school has a rich history spanning over 120 years and boasts more than 40,000 alumni.
It is also recognised as a “Super Science High School (SSH)” by Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).
The SSH program is a government-funded initiative that supports upper secondary schools with a strong focus on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), aiming to develop the next generation of leaders in these fields by cultivating students' scientific inquiry skills through advanced STEM education.
The delegation's visit to UTMy was part of their SSH program activities.
The visit began with a warm welcome from our Dean, Professor Dr. Maki Tsujimura, followed by a presentation by Professor Dr. Yoichi Yamada.
The students then had the opportunity to share their own presentations.
UTMy students also participated in the session.
In the second part of the visit, Mr. Hidehiro Yamada, President of Hitachi High-Tech IPC (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd., joined the group and offered students a hands-on experience with electron microscopy.
We hope this experience inspires the visiting students to expand their horizons and make meaningful contributions to the global scientific community in the future.
