UTMy Welcomes Ambassador Shikata Noriyuki for Lecture on Japan-Malaysia Relations & FOIP

On 24th March 2025, the University of Tsukuba, Malaysia (UTMy) had the distinct honor of hosting Ambassador Shikata Noriyuki, Ambassador of Japan to Malaysia, for a special lecture titled "The Current Japan-Malaysia Relations and Japan's Free and Open Indo-Pacific Policy (FOIP)."
During his address, Ambassador Shikata Noriyuki emphasized Japan’s commitment to fostering a Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP)—a strategy that promotes cooperation over confrontation, encourages equal partnerships, and strengthens regional stability through dialogue and trust-based relationships. He also stressed the importance of human resource development as a key pillar of Japan-Malaysia relations. He recognized UTMy’s contributions to this effort, emphasizing the university’s role in equipping students with essential skills and cultural knowledge.
Furthermore, Ambassador Shikata Noriyuki offered meaningful advice to UTMy students—encouraging them to immerse themselves in Japanese culture and discipline and to serve as role models for future students. His message underscored the importance of leadership, responsibility, and cross-cultural understanding.
