UTMy Makes Its First School Visit to Miri

UTMy, together with Okayama University Japan Educational Information Centre Malaysia (OJEIC), was honoured to visit SM Sains Miri in Sarawak, marking our first school visit in Miri.

SM Sains Miri is a full boarding school located in Miri, Sarawak, offering Form 1–5 education with a strong focus on science and technology. The school is widely recognised for fostering academic excellence, leadership, and holistic development within a multicultural environment.

In addition to its strong academic foundation, SM Sains Miri actively promotes multilingual education. Students are encouraged to use at least four languages: Bahasa Melayu, English, their mother tongue, and an additional foreign language, including Japanese. Notably, the school’s students have achieved excellent results in the Japanese Speech Contest organised by the Japan Foundation Kuala Lumpur and have successfully become finalists for consecutive years.

During the visit, UTMy introduced myself to approximately 250 students from Form 4 and Form 5, providing an overview of academic programme, campus life, and future study opportunities.

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the Principal, Puan Dayan Laila Binti Kahar, and the Vice Principal, Puan Dayang Safinaz binti Abang, for their warm welcome.
Special thanks also go to Puan Fiona, who teaches Japanese at the school, for her dedication and support.

We wish all students of SM Sains Miri every success as they pursue a bright future , and we look forward to seeing them at JFKL Speech Contest 2026!
